The longer
I have this doe here, the more I love her. She is very sensitive,
and has to try harder than those with calm personalities to be
a good goat, but she really does try. She was sold to me
because she was such a beast in the show ring at her first show
that her breeder put her on the sale page in disgust--but she
apparently had no intention of being shown the door again, because
she always behaved perfectly for us, though it took some convincing
to get her to walk with her head up. It helps that she is very
fond of horse cookies. She has been everything we have asked her
to be--great mom, beautiful show doe, happy milker. Thanks are
due to my good friend Sunni for not only letting me have this
paragon, but for not being mad that she has turned around so well!

By the way, for those who have wondered, I placed this photo of Party in the Wikipedia Commons some time ago, because the photos of Nigerian Dwarf goats that were on Wikipedia at the time were either in fact Pygmies or were of horned, unclipped, not very inspiring specimens. Placing this picture in the Commons means that it is available to be used in pretty much any way people want to at will, with the restrction that attribution is required. Unfortunately, that attribution is often lacking, so I've spent some time chasing down copies and asking people to properly attribute the photo. It also has led to various funny situations such as the one where Party is being used to illustrate the color pattern "black and tan" or essentially sundgau. She's obviously not a sundgau, but a clear buckskin, who does however illustrate the extreme in blackening referred to by Dr. Phil Sponenberg in his article "The Genetics of Goat Color", where he says, referring to the color pattern "San Clemente"( which we call buckskin), "The result is that the blackest variants can be easily confused with the patterns produced by
the
black and tan
or
eyebar
alleles, while the least black variants could be confused with a
shaded red
." To verify that Party is indeed buckskin, we need only examine the result of breeding her to Rebel, which twice produced solid black and clear, standard issue, black and tan buckskin, thus proving beyond doubt that it is impossible for Party to be anything other than buckskin. Unfortunately this argument did not prove convincing to the person foolishly using her photo to illustrate the wrong pattern, and she remains there to this day (although at least now I receive the photo credit). I mean, why on earth would I know what color my own goat is?
One very cool result of placing this photo in the Commons is that Party has been used several times now in issues of "Time For Kids" to illustrate the Nigerian Dwarf Goat (most recently in May, 2013, and with actual proper attribution. Yay!)

An AGS Top Ten milker for 2012!
(Ribht photo by Declan Dean) Another long, elegant, striking Hunk daughter.
Described by Lynn Fleming as "the most beautiful Nigerian Dwarf
doe I have ever seen," just before she awarded her the Best
Jr Doe in Show rosette in Windsor, Maine, May, 2009. As a kid she was breathtaking
and extremely unfriendly, but has calmed down considerably since
she kidded and joined the milking string. Her
udder is a joy to milk, with outstanding attachments and huge teats.

Thank you, old lady Party for these beautiful buck doe twins, both retained. Fantasia has if anything exceeded my very high expectations for her. she's beautiful, sweet, and milks very well. She was the dam of our 2019 Spotlight Sale consignment buck, Dragonfly PS Atlantis, and was only my 2nd doe to score the coveted 92 in her 2019 appraisal. Despite what I see as her stuning beauty, other than her junior leg, she has so far been consistently the bridesmaid in the show ring, breaking Somaili's previous record with 6 RGCh wins . For

Finally, an Apogee daughter to keep. This gorgeous kid named herself immediately after birth. Very assertive personality. Kind of like me (not the gorgeous part). Freshened with a gorgeous udder, very well extended fore, lots of capacity. Hellcat was pretty stale by the time appraisal rolled around in 2017, and I don't think her udder score reflected her true potential; I think her 2018 score is more representative, and her 2019 score was pretty much where I thought she would end up; however she outdid herself in 2023 at 8 years achieving the coveted EEEE 92, and earning the comment, "Some does are good because they are old; some are old because they are good--this one is just good.". Hellcat is one of our stronger and more persistent milkers, and managied to break the 1000 pound mark in 2022 on her 4th lactation. Honestly, it's always more my problem than hers, other years. In 2024 at 9 years young, she produced live quintuplets, heroically delivering them almost entirely on her own, with only the aid of her best buddy Linnet. For

Gretel caught my eye when her owner posted her for sale or trade on Facebook--she's an "older" style Nigerian, but her udder is stunning, and she also has a very interesting old pedigree with some lines in common with our beloved Stonewall's Apocalypse Now. I am very glad she has arrived here. Meanwhile, she has come back off the "Lawen Ornaments" page by choosing to get herself bred to Capriccio at 12 years of age and looking at most half that old. For

I do not usually allow myself to keep kids from first fresh does, and even though I love Dido, I should stick to my rule...but this one was really gorgeous. And also very personable. So she stays. Good thing, too, this is one of the nicest first udders we have had. For

Very fancy polled doe with beautiful conformation. Tends to believe that she should really be inside your clothes with you. I really should not have kept this kid, I already have a lovely daughter out of Ishtar, but she is just such a love. Ninevah is one of the ancient cities particularly known for its worship of the goddess Ishtar. Ninevah freshened with a lovely first udder and is even more correct in her conformation than I had noticed before. Beautiful front end assembly, lovely wide flat rump, smooth as glass all over, consistently a favorite of the appraisers, 90 as a 2nd freshener. What more could I ask. (Left photo by Kim Enos; right photo by Stacey Rosado) It's taken a while, but Vireo has slowly risen to the upper ranks of does here. She has maintained her beautiful attachments and gorgeous general appearance into her 8th year, and finally earned those last GCH legs to go along with her solid LA scores. She has one of the nicest rumps in the herd to go along with her beautiful udder and front end assembly. For

When Ella blessed me with twin does at her advanced age, I felt obliged to keep both, greedy little me. I fell in love with her at first sight. In Somali mythology, the Ayaan or ayana are good spirits or angels that mediate between god and humans and whose blessings one seeks; and the word is commonly translated as "lucky". Thanks go out to Michael Covey for posing her for this picture! She really struggled with listeria in 2018, and lost a lot of condition so was dried off early to help her recover. Then she suffered an injury to her jaw so that she struggles to maintain condition, but she still has a beautiful profile and a super nice rump. For
